Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I join?
A: Just grab your horn and show up!  It's that simple.  We encourage anyone interested in music to join us.  We welcome band members with any level of experience.

Q: Where do you practice?
A: During the Appalachian State University school year we meet @ 7:30 PM in Room 119 (the Spencer Rehearsal Hall) in the Broyhill Music Center on the campus of Appalachian State university.  During the summer months our practice locations may change so check the Calendar for any updates.

NOTE: For the remainder of the school year and during the summer we will meet @ 7:00 PM.

Q: Is there a fee to participate?
A: Currently, unlike many community bands, the WCB does not have a fee to participate.  We raise money during the summer months by playing for local businesses, camp grounds, and other events to fund our organization.  Donations, however, are always welcome and are tax deductible as we are a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

Q: Do I need my own horn to participate?

A: Generally speaking, yes, you will need your own horn.  In some special circumstances we may be able to help you find one to play.  If you are an ASU student and take Community Band as a class you may also be able to check out an instrument from the Hayes School of Music pending availability.
